Zenity command in Linux
What is ZENITY ?
zenity is a program that will display GTK+ dialogs, and return (either
in the return code or on the standard output) the user's input. This allows
you to present information, and ask for information from the user, from
all manner of shell scripts.
For example, zenity — the question will return either 0, 1, or 5, depending
on whether the user pressed OK, Cancel or timeout has been reached.
zenity — entry will output on standard output what the user typed into
the text entry field.
Let us check out some options in zenity!
- info option is used to display an information dialog-box
[root@localhost ~]# zenity — info
we can also use combinations of options.
2. Text option is used to write a string in the dialog box, title option is used to provide the title to the dialog box
let us create a combination of ‘info’ ‘text’ ‘title’:
[root@localhost ~]# zenity — info — text=” hello everyone have a nice day”
— title=”zenity blog”
3.Entry option is used to give input after the dialog box opens
let us create a combination of ‘entry’ ‘text’ ‘title’, we can’t use two dialog-box together, for ex: we can’t use ‘info’ and ‘entry’ together
[root@localhost ~]# zenity — entry — text=” hello everyone have a nice day” — title=”zenity blog”
4. Error option is used to create an error dialog box
[root@localhost ~]# zenity — error
5.warning option is used to create a warning dialog-box
[root@localhost ~]# zenity — warning
So likewise we can create several dialog boxes with various combinations of different options.

This program follows the usual GNU command line syntax, with long
options starting with two dashes (`-’).

Listen for commands on stdin. Commands include ‘message’,
‘tooltip’, ‘icon’, and ‘visible’ separated by a colon. For exam‐
ple, ‘message: Hello world’, ‘visible: false’, or ‘icon:
/path/to/icon’. The icon command also accepts the four stock
icon: ‘error’, ‘info’, ‘question’, and ‘warning’
